thankyouthankyouthankyou asked: also: "dear future me"

Dear Future Me,

You’re welcome, in advance, for this acquired liking for washing the dishes. As you may or may not remember, it wasn’t your favorite chore for the first 25.25 years of your life - that is, until you finally got around to putting speakers in the kitchen and playing Laura Marling’s catalogue on repeat while scrubbing away. Miss Marling’s music makes everything better - I hope you haven’t forgotten that. And if you have, please stop reading this tumblr post right now and go listen to her.

Also, I’m glad you’ve finally gotten over the body-issues and conquered the self-hate and have finally become a well-balanced and self-loving woman. While I’m writing to you, I’m struggling with it all on a daily basis. I’m sure you remember how awful I felt about myself and how by this time I at least recognized what was wrong and was beginning to try and do something about it.

I do hope you’re still a vegetarian. I also hope you and Miss Friday are still having wonderful adventures. (Or, if it’s that far in the future, I hope she had a very long and happy life with you - I know she will.) I hope Travis is still a wonderful partner and that you are still in love like we are right now.

I hope you’re living in a beautiful place and have great memories of traveling the world and experiencing life. Also, how cool is it that you’re a super famous illustrator now?!?! And I hear they’re making your graphic novel into a movie?!! So hip. You really are the coolest.

Please don’t forget that our natural dark brown hair really is the best look on us and that, after your successful laser eye surgery, your blue eyes stand out the most beautifully against pale, sun-protected skin. But if you forgot to wear sunblock enough between when I wrote this and now (future?) - forgive yourself, I’m sure it was fun.

Also, writing to my future self is confusing my grammar nerd brain and I hope you’ve become less scathing about these sorts of things. In the big picture, it doesn’t really matter, and I’m so far from perfect it woon’t help to judge myself… But you’re my amazing future self who knows this all too well.

Keep being awesome. And never forget how great 2012 was, because it’s just started right now and I know it’ll be a great year.

Love,

Your past self, at 25 years of age, who is just beginning to become the better person you are right now
